The Best Job in the World

Wednesday, February 25, 2009

You might have heard about the Best Job in the World. if you haven't, its a marketing initiative from Tourism Queensland to generate tourist interest and revenue for the Island of the Great Barrier Reef. They've created a position called "Caretaker of the Islands of the Great Barrier Reef", which involves living on the Islands and participating in activities around the islands like snorkeling, bush-walking, sailing and kayaking. Its a six-month contract which pays $150,000AUD. The successful applicant must make weekly reports on a blog and take photos and video from their experiences.

Not-too-shabby eh? You can learn more about it on

If you had planned on applying, its too late. Applications have now closed, and they received more that 34,000 of them. I put together an application, (with Dani on the camera and voice coaching assistance!) and this is what we came up with. While I'm sure its a long shot, it was good to put together the application, and I learned a few more tricks in the process.

50 Short listed candidates are announced on the 2nd of March. There is a popularity voting system that doesn't effect the short listing selection, but you're welcome to visit my video on their website and give me a few stars! Also, on the odd chance you've seen my video and on and visited my blog as a result, leave a comment and let me know.
